About Sangdee

Sangdee (Thai for good light) is a non-profit, dynamic gallery that has set itself to the task of promoting up and coming artists as well as showcasing both national and international talent. And yet, Sangdee offers much more than this. In the spirit of fostering good will, nurturing creativity and uniting the community, Sangdee hosts all manner of workshops, weekly live music, open microphone and networking events, film screenings, and can host and organize private functions, birthdays. private film screenings, club meetings and much much more. Sangdee hosts a selection of great local bands - some well known, and some emerging. By attending, enjoying some tasty snacks and refreshing beverages you are not only helping Sangdee support the arts community, but you are directly supporting the performing artists as well.Also, come and sample the treats in our Cafe including organic coffee, teas, fresh juices, snacks - and free WiFi everyday!

The Rolling Son is a group of art students and teachers who have shown their work annually to keep in touch with one another and to show how each artist has evolved. They are looking for ways to develop their print techniques relative to one another so that that they could better express each of their personality. Every print is for sale.

ABLE Surviving the Flood; An Affordable Art Show

December 17th 2011 - January 14th 2012This show presents the positive human strength and capabilities for surviving the most traumatic circumstances. The current severe flooding in Thailand is the main inspiration for the theme of the show which will involve a multitude of art forms.This show aims to generate a new audience by selling all the work at an affordable price, making art accessible to everyone.The grand opening party will be at Sangdee Gallery on 17th December from 6pm with many live performances, music, food, drink and more surprises!A percentage of the profits made from the exhibition will be donated to a charity helping to regenerate damaged areas caused by the flood.There will be a variety of high quality art work including photography from Sarun Srisingchais recent exhibition at Bangkok Arts and Cultural Centre, multimedia work from Tom Goddard, winner of the Welsh Emerging Artist award, Sculpture from Internationally renowned Chiang Mai based artist Chakkrit Chimnok, Living sculptures from artist and writer Emma Hammarén of Studio 44 in Sweden and much more art from exceptional artists, all for sale at the same reasonable price! 25+ International artists including: Pattree Chimnok, Chakkrit Chimnok, Mowax Ippies, Veronique Van Hoorick, Arnot Nongyao, Beer Thanet, Thanarat Thepka, Tom Goddard, Jessica Mautner, Morag Kiziewicz, Tuktungteung, Emma Hammarén, Mahasamoot Aukkaradechosub, Narita Lert-Utsahakul (Tofu), Pakorn Yoodee, Surjate Tongchua, Jo Lathwood, Robert Darch, Sarun Srisingchai, Vee Art, Katie Hawker, Rolling Sun Group and more.

Art Classes are now being offered at Sangdee Gallery! Find your inner Artist, learn new techniques or just come have some fun in the studio. From childrens after-school art classes to advanced painting technique workshops, our art teacher Shawn Kessler will make your art skill come alive!

Shawn is an artist and graphic designer from California, USA. He has a Bachelors of Art in Studio Art and studied Drawing, Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Graphic Design and Printmaking. He has experience teaching art to children; from a similar community art project in California where he taught Drawing and Ceramics. He is very excited at the prospect of expanding the studio aspect of Sangdee Gallery and adding more disciplines, such as printmaking, photography and ceramics.

Classes will be held in English, but students are not required to be fluent. Taking an art course here at Sangdee would be a great way to increase your English as related to Art.

Anything can be made into a studio class, depending on interest. If you want to take Figure Drawing classes, or Linoleum-cut Printmaking, all you need is three students and it can be accommodated. Contact us if you have any questions or would like more information about a possible class.

Right-Brain DrawingWe use a novel approach to teaching drawing that awakens parts of the brain that often lie dormant. Linking the movement of the pencil and the eye gives us the ability to draw and opens us to new possibilities. The students' minds will be made to see composition in a new light and their hands will be trained to better produce what is seen in their mind's eye. Our classes will improve the drawing skills of both beginners and experts alike.The goal of our courses is to teach students to draw with convincing realism. They are engineered to teach the hand to draw what the mind sees. They also have the intention of training the mind to see things in a new, more accurate light. That process will be introduced and through practice, the students will greatly increase their ability to draw.Drawing in pencil and charcoal will be taught. The students will be made to focus on real objects and re-create them with their drawings. Our classes will focus on studio time and use of still life, but will also foster a drawing practice that can be used anywhere and any time.

Come learn to paint at Sangdee! We offer classes for all ability levels and mediums. Our Beginning Painting classes focus on color theory and paint application, while our intermediate and advanced classes focus on composition, technique and style. Active artists, come join our Advanced Painting Group on Tuesday evenings. We offer studio space, community, projects, critique and art discussion. Informal lectures and reports on artists and art movements are also offered. Our studio space inside an active gallery collection will get your creative juices flowing!

Children's Classes

By making art fun for kids, our classes will introduce them to creativity. They will learn the basic skills of how to draw and paint, while being exposed to the world of art. Creativity will be stimulated with fun exercises and lessons, interesting artists from around the world, play time with materials in a studio environment, and creation of their own art. They will be led through lessons increasing their capacity to draw, color, paint and mix colors.Our classes make for great after-school activities. Bring your children to Sangdee and foster a lifelong interest in the world of art!

Art Studio

Our gallery is a complete studio and offers great opportunities for local artists. Offering classes and workshops to our local arts community, we are also working to make Sangdee into a multidisciplinary art space. Drawing and Painting are currently offered, and future additions include Ceramics, Printmaking (screenprinting and linoleum-cut), Photography and Graphic Design. Our classes can be taken one-by-one, or as a six week course. All we need is your interest and we can create a class or workshop made for you!

A space for youSangdee Gallery is well situated close to popular Nimmanhaemin Road, but set back off of Sirimangakalajarn Road sufficiently so as to feel tranquil. It is well appointed both with decor and furnishings, and complimented by generous and well lit floor space. Spread over multiple levels of a large town house, Sangdee can offer affordable space for private functions, club meetings, film screenings, wine tastings, birthday parties or Karaoke nights, music launches, art exhibitions, teaching/training space and more. Sangdee can also arrange catering for your event, and we have a well stocked cafe with delicious coffee and small snacks.Technical considerations: we are equipped with an extensive, high quality sound system in all rooms. We have a semi-portable P.A. (Sound ReInforcement) system, and multiple microphones for live music, presentations and more. Furthermore we have an inhouse cinematic setup comprised of projector and large screen, complete with surround sound speaker system.Additional needs including lighting, extra seating and more can be arranged via local hire companies.Contact us now about your event for a competitive quote.
